Located right inside of Baxter State Park, adjacent to Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument lies Katahdin - Maine's Highest Mountain at 5,269' in elevation!
Katahdin, named by the Penobscot Indians, means “Greatest Mountain.” Katahdin is also known to most for being the northern point of the Appalachian Trail (A.T), and either the beginning or final point for those looking to travel it. It is also the starting point for the International Appalachian Trail!

Roaring Brook
Join us on Friday, June 30th for an amazing first climb of the season on what is known to be an epic "first-timer friendly" ascent; the Saddle Trail. We'll begin the morning with a 3.3 mile hike to Chimney Pond Campground - A backcountry campground with incredible views looking up toward Baxter Peak - our intended destination. From Chimney Pond Campground, we will continue onto the Saddle Trail - with 2.2 miles to Baxter Peak, the highest summit on Katahdin!
Total Mileage: 11 miles round-trip.

Roaring Brook
Hit the trails with us on Friday, July 7th for a trek across the famous Knife Edge to ascend Baxter Peak! We'll begin the morning by hiking up the Helon Taylor Trail to Pamola Peak (4,919'). After a short break at Pamola Peak, we will begin to descend into the Chimney, before a quick climb up onto the Knife Edge Trail. The fun really begins here! A 1.1 rocky traverse stands between us and our destination: Baxter Peak. Descent will be via the Saddle Trail to Chimney Pond - back to Roaring Brook.

Abol
Join us on Friday, July 21st for a climb up a staff favorite, the Abol Trail! This trail is the most direct route of travel to ascend Baxter Peak. At 8.8 miles round trip and over 3,982 feet in elevation gain in a short period of time - this is the shortest climb up the mountain, but still requires a full day ahead of us. This route of travel provides a little bit of everything in terms of terrain - flats, switchback, rocky traversing, and incredible views. This trail is an out-and-back trek, and an amazing day!

Katahdin Stream
Experience the final destination (or the beginning) of the Appalachian Trail - the Hunt Trail on Monday, August 14th. The Hunt Trail is off of Katahdin Stream Campground and is a 5.2 out-and-back trail to Baxter Peak. This trail is part of the Appalachian Trail and is followed by White Blazes, the official blaze mark of the A.T. The trail begins as a gentle climb through a wooded forest, heading towards Katahdin Stream Falls. Once past the falls, the ascent really begins with gaining lots of elevation while on your way to treeline. Once out of treeline, there will be areas of a rock scramble as we ascend the ridge to the tablelands. This trek is unique, and provides seriously amazing views along the way!

- Will my trip happen if it's raining or there is predicted thunderstorms?
-Guided Trips happen rain or shine. If there is particularly rough weather coming in - or present during the day of your trip - your Guide will communicate the course of action for the day. - What do I need to do to prepare for my trip?
-The most important part of preparing for your trip is your attitude! Attitude is everything. Many people of all physical abilities have climbed Katahdin. Having the will power and desire to do this will get you there! Your Guide will connect with you to discuss activities and strengthening exercises that may be of benefit to you! - I have Dietary Restrictions, can these be accommodated?
- Is it difficult to hike Katahdin?
-Everyone's range of difficulties and what they categorize as difficult varies. But, yes. Katahdin can be difficult in many areas. This is why attitude is everything! Katahdin is a climb, not a hike. We will traverse through rocky terrain 98% of the climb which is a very different terrain for most. Your Guide will connect with you to detail the day as thoroughly as possible to help you better understand what we will experience throughout the day!
-Yes, 100%. Each bagged lunch consists of a variety of snacks, whole fruit, cheeses, salty and sweet treats, and a sandwich. We can accommodate any dietary restrictions or food allergies.
