Camping in Maine provides friends and family the opportunity to connect with nature and one another. At the New England Outdoor Center, we know camping memories can last a lifetime and we are proud to share our campground at the Penobscot Outdoor Center with people that appreciate nature as much as we do. We have a large campground 2 miles from the south entrance of Baxter State Park. The campground overlooks Pockwockamus Pond and Katahdin, Maine’s highest mountain. It is also the base for NEOC’s whitewater rafting trips on the Penobscot River
With a variety of lodging options, we can help you find the perfect spot to stay.
Enjoy the natural camping experience at our spacious and economical campsites that include a picnic table and fire ring. Bring your own tent and equipment and also have access to our large pavilion for showers and other facilities.
Canvas Cabin Tents
Our Canvas Cabin Tents save you the trouble of pitching a tent and feature screened doors and windows, four cots, fire ring and picnic table and access our large pavilion for showers and other facilities.
Some might not call it “camping,” but it is rustic and provides a level of comfort beyond a traditional tent. Designed comfortably for up to 4 or 5 people, our bunkhouses come complete with wood walls, windows, a metal door, 4-5 bunks with mattresses and a weatherproof metal roof.
We encourage our guests to book vacation packages as early as possible. Weekend dates and holidays will sell out fast! Book today, call 1-800-634-7238.Camping before and after your Maine whitewater rafting adventure makes for an unforgettable summer vacation experience.
Out of respect to our other guests, proximity to Baxter State Park and for the safety of the animals, pets are prohibited at the Penobscot Outdoor Center (POC). If you are interested in bringing your pet then please consider staying with us at our Twin Pines/NEOC location on Millinocket Lake, just 6 miles from POC. Here we have wonderful lakeside cabins and pets are welcome to stay with you.
