Katahdin Ascents | 12yrs+
Located just eight miles from the South Entrance of Baxter State Park, NEOC is your basecamp for one of Maine’s most iconic adventures.
Our Guided Katahdin Ascent is more than just a climb. It’s a thoughtfully crafted experience led by our team of Registered Maine Guides, each dedicated to sharing the depth, beauty, and spirit of this region. From your first conversation with us to the moment you return from the trek, every detail is intentionally designed to support, prepare, and inspire your journey.
Rising to 5,269 feet within Baxter State Park, Katahdin stands as Maine’s highest peak and one of the most revered mountains in the Northeast. Named by the Penobscot people, meaning “Greatest Mountain,” Katahdin is both the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail and the beginning of the International Appalachian Trail. It is a place of challenge, reflection, and deep connection.
Climbing Katahdin is no small feat. With NEOC, you’ll move through this landscape with confidence, purpose, and the guidance of those who know it intimately. Join us for a guided ascent of our beloved mountain!

Guided trips occur rain or shine. If there is particularly rough weather coming in – or present during the day of your trip – your Guide will communicate the course of action for the day. Guests may have the option to change to a different Katahdin Ascent offered in the season or the following year, or receive credit to use in the Resort.
The most important part of preparing for your trip is your attitude and endurance. Attitude is everything! Many people of all physical abilities have climbed Katahdin. Having the willpower and desire to do this will get you there! Your Guide will connect with you to discuss activities and strengthening exercises that may be of benefit to you!
Half-Day Hike | 4yrs+
Join us for a Guided Half-Day Hike to Blueberry Ledges, the Ice Caves, or Little & Big Niagara Falls in Baxter State Park, a perfect introduction to exploring the Katahdin Region on foot.
These easy, no-more than 4-mile round-trip hikes are designed for all ages and experience levels, offering a relaxed and engaging way to connect with Maine’s outdoors. Along the way, your Registered Maine Guide will share the rich history of Baxter State Park while leading you through a diverse and ever-changing landscape.
Whether you’re hiking with family, introducing little ones to the trail, or simply looking for a scenic and meaningful outdoor experience, this trip offers something for everyone.
