NEOC Basecamp

Situated on Pockwockamus Pond, the NEOC Basecamp campground is located just two miles from Baxter State Park. Visitors can experience traditional camping, canvas cabin tent camping, or bunkhouse camping, with access to hot showers, volleyball, and a pond for canoes and kayaks. All set against sweeping views of Katahdin, Maine’s highest peak. Please note, pets are not allowed at NEOC Basecamp.

More of a glamper? Our canvas cabin tents save you the trouble of setting up your own gear. Each small cabin tent features screened doors and windows, 1-2 sleeping cots, a fire ring, and a picnic table.

If you prefer a little extra protection from the elements but still want a camping experience, our bunkhouses are just right for you. Each small bunkhouse is designed comfortably with wood walls, windows, a metal door, 4 bunks with mattresses, and a weatherproof metal roof.

Katahdin Forest Cabins

Tucked along the shores of Compass Pond and Sunday Pond, these seasonal cabins (available May–November) offer a true off-grid experience for those 
craving solitude, stillness, and immersion in the Maine Woods. Be sure to pack a sleeping mat, sleeping bag, and pillow, and review the site details below ahead 
of your stay.


Know before you go

To help you prepare for a safe and comfortable stay, please note the following:

💧 Water: There is no potable water on-site. Please bring your own.


🍳 Cooking: No indoor cooking facilities are available. Bring your own camp stove or Jetboil, which may only be used outdoors.


🔥 Firewood: Firewood is available for purchase at our Penobscot Outdoor Center (you will pass this on the way to your stay).


💡 Lighting: Cabins are not equipped with indoor lighting.


🐾 Pets: Pets are welcome!


♻️ Leave No Trace: We follow Leave No Trace principles. Please pack out all food, trash, and gear.


🚿 Water Disposal: Each cabin includes an indoor gray water drainage sink.

Compass pond cabin

The Compass Pond Cabin offers a peaceful, off-grid escape on the edge of a quiet backcountry pond. This cabin sleeps up to six on wooden bunks (12 max with floorspace) and includes a large porch, gray water sink, and detached vault toilet. It’s a bring-your-own-everything adventure—perfect for those seeking simplicity, solitude, and time in the wild.

SUNDAY pond cabin

Sunday Pond Cabin is located less than two miles from Baxter State Park—offering off-grid comfort and forested pond views. This one-story, two-room cabin sleeps up to six on wooden bunks (12 max with floor space) and includes a porch, indoor gray water sink, and detached vault toilet. It’s an ideal spot to unplug, explore, and reconnect with nature on your own terms.
