Snowmobile Trail Report

Twin Pine Snowmobile Club has a fleet of 250 horsepower BR 400 Bombardier diesel groomers (used by major ski resorts) and a dedicated staff of snowmobile trail groomers. The Club makes sure over 130 miles of Maine snowmobile trails in the Katahdin region of Northern Maine are groomed as often as the weather and conditions allow.

So here is the low down on riding for the Weekend....
There remains some incredible riding in the area..... but..... you need to be willing to put up with some dirt and tar or be very careful about where you ride. The state road or ITS 86 west has gone to mostly tar from the parking area at the dike for about the first quarter mile. From the old Debsconeag gate parking area out it is in pretty good shape and can be improved with grooming if the temps get cold enough to make grooming a good bet, and the jury is out on that issue!

The Logan pond trail is in really great shape for this time of year with only a little dirt showing in the wooded stretch between the park and Sandy Stream.. From the Logan Pond Trail I would continue on to the Stratton Trail to 83 north and on up to Shin Pond who will be open Friday and Saturday closing at 7:00 Saturday and not open Sunday

If you are interested in heading west, the Chesuncook Lake house will be open and there is still lots and lots of snow from Whitehouse landing out into the Jo Mary country and then west on up to the Lake house. Again if it is cool enough the the Chesuncook club and Twin Pines plan to groom in this area. The Grant brook road is starting to show a lot of dirt.

Also today (Saturday) from David Surprenant: Chesuncook SC. Just finished a 32 mile run to the Spencer Mt. Road on the Ragged Loop Trail. 99.8% snow coverage. A few bare spots here and there, overall great conditions and still plenty of snow on and off trail. As of last weekend the ice out front was holding at 4\' thick. Lake is a little slushy with some snow spots here and there. Temps where in the high 20\'s overnight froze up most of the water. 30F now. Enjoy the Spring Riding!

March 26, 2013

We have confirmation now from Shin Pond, Twin Pines, Abol Store, and Chesuncook clubs that snowpack and conditions should support grooming Friday night and so we all plan to groom... All areas will have some lean or bare spots but for the most part conditions should be pretty decent. For the Millinocket area, Twin Pines will groom from Twin Pines out on 86 west to Penobscot Pond. Condition\'s will be mixed to poor on the lower end of the State Road and the Grant Brook Road. We will also groom the Logans, Stratton trail and north from there to Whetstone on ITS 83. We will also groom from the NTC up the Stacyville Road on ITS 86 east/North.... We will not groom the Pole Line or down town Trails and people should expect poor coverage coming out of town. Stay tuned for updates as conditions could change. We still have lodging deals at Twin Pine Camps through this week and weekend.

March 22, 2013

Cold nights and temps in the low thirties for the weekend daytime highs will make for great riding here in the Katahdin Region. All trails in the Millinocket system are now groomed and we along with the Sno-Rovers and Jo Mary club will keep our systems groomed for the weekend! Tonight (Friday) we will groom the entire system again and we will be out on Saturday night also. Ride Right and we will see you on the trails. Enjoy!
