Snowmobile Trail Report for the Katahdin Region 08-09 Season
11/20/08 Winter and snowmobile season is coming... Temperatures have been in the mid 20's, we have had flurries in-town and Mt. Katahdin has snow!!! The clubs are actively working on the snowmobile trails brushing, cutting, moving bolders, fixing bridges and signing trails to get ready for the 2009 snowmobile season. Most trails in the Katahdin Region will remain the same with a few minor changes.
NOTE: The Katahdin Area Chamber of Commerce is updating and printing the 2009 snowmobile trail map and should have those available by Christmas. Contact Jen at 207-723-4443 or info@katahdinmaine.com in Millinocket and she will send you the new Katahdin Region 2009 Snowmobile Trail Map
04/17/08 We are no longer grooming the snowmobile trails. Many of the signage has been removed, although there are still some signs at major intersections on the trails. Warning signs have been taken down.
The Wild Kingdom Trail is closed. North of Twin Pines still has some pretty good riding in the woods. Enjoy any late season riding!
04/02/08 Most of the trail system was groomed this past Sunday and Monday and we will groom again on the weekend coming up. We received little to no rain and the temps continue to be cold enough to maintain the deep snow base. Snow depths are still in the 35"-40" range. We will remain open for riding and rentals at least through the 2nd weekend of April. Come and enjoy these great conditions!
03/26/08 We continue to have tons of snow (received two inches this morning) and no rain. Conditions are excellent and conducive to great Spring riding. We will continue to groom at least through the first weekend of April. See our website (www.neoc.com) for current lodging/rental specials. Enjoy the ride!
03/18/08 Like a broken record I am here to report once
again that conditions are excellent (with one notable exception) and we are
about to receive more snow! The exception is, the 3 miles of trail known as
the Dolby Trail Connector between Millinocket and
East Millinocket. This trail is in rough shape with lots of issues with running water. The Stratton Trail represents a great alternative and is in beautiful shape. We will likely not groom the Dolby Trail again this year and users should ride with real caution on an "at your own risk" basis! Beyond that bit of spring-like news, the rest of the system was groomed Monday night and will be groomed again Thursday and for the weekend. We have exceptional Easter Weekend specials and still offer mid-winter, top-notch riding. The forecast for the weekend is for cold nights and temps around 30 during the day. Don't miss it! We plan to groom into April.

Comments: I stayed at twin pines two times and saw 5 the first time and one the second trip.
Ride safe, stay off the lakes, on the trails, and out of the deep snow or you will get very, very stuck!

Comments: What a surprise to come around a corner on the trail and see a moose in the headlights!! It wouldn't get off the trail for about 3/10th of a mile or so... who could blame it? Tons of snow and all. Trails are beautiful, many thanks to the volunteers! COME RIDE THE TRAILS OF THE KATAHDIN REGION!!

Moose have been seen quite a bit running on trails due to the deep snow in the woods. Please be cautious... Taken 2/17/08 taken by Chuck Ciociola

The Baxter State Park Road, ITS-86, smooth and waiting for scenic cruising.
Rock Pile Trail... usually the roughest trail, now deep in snow! Taken 2/20/08
