Hello to my future guests and faithful readers. Tonight's moose tour was productive. We started first with a sighting of a ruffed grouse, then a Maine Whitetail deer, onto a a moose (cow), then a black bear. Not bad, not bad! Come on up and see me or just come up and see a moose. Well I am back from a couple days of guided hiking in Baxter State Park. My 8 guests from Tokyo, Japan had made plans with myself for 3 months for an ascent to Mt. Katahdin. Unfortunately the day before their arrival it started snowing, on October 3rd. The trails have been closed from Chimney Pond and above. So we climbed to Chimney Pond and had our lunch in the Basin with the snow falling on us.
The Moose watching action has been great! My guests from Tokyo photographed an old cow for 30 min. at 25 yards! Tonight my guests from London, England and Houlton, Maine observed a cow and calf feeding in a pond for 30 min. and then walked directly behind a trophy 1000lb bull on our departing trail. He had monstrous antlers that towered above us. One week ago we observed some rut action with a 1,200lb bull that destroyed a Douglas fur with his antlers, marking his territory. YOU HAVE TO COME SEE THIS AMAZING WILDLIFE and INCREDIBLE MT. KATAHDIN!!!

Still running moose tours from our comfortable van (our luxury pontoonboat is out of the water for the season) and short hikes for those of you that are interested. We are still seeing Moose and Mark will use his Maine Guide skills to "call one in" for you. The bulls look beautiful at this time of year with full racks, nice fur coats. Call today and book a scenic fall foliage and moose tour.
9/23/08 Tuesday
Hello to all of the regular readers and newcomers as well! The fall foliage is coming quickly. We are seeing big changes in the leaf colors from one day to the next. The sunsets are great this time of the year and early morning lake and river fog adds to the experience as well. The moose are nice and healthy at this point, in preparation for our hard winter ahead. If you want to see one, all you have to do is come see me! Mark at Twin Pine Camps, New England Outdoor Center.

What an incredible fall day. One cow in the morning, followed by one cow in the evening. The trees are changing color fast. Tonight we are expecting a hard freeze with lows in the 20's. The on set of the breeding season or the rut is here.
Call and book your trip, things are gonna get crazy around here!

What a great tour. Tonight was fantastic for moose and deer sightings. My guests peacefully watched 2 cows and 1 bull on separate occasions. A very nice quite tour by vehicle. Even when it rains the van or truck can still offer some great moose tours. Don't let the weather deter you.

09/10/08 Wednesday
What a great evening tour. This is why you should come to New England Outdoor Center for a moose tour.
1. We almost always see a moose!
2. The incredible sights and sounds of the true wild.
3. The plush luxury pontoon boat to help you relax and enjoy.
4. The learning experience of our wildlife, culture, and surrounding history.
5. Last, and probably just as important as number 1, the experience!
What do I mean when I say the experience. For example, on tonight's tour we observed a black bear swim across a 100 yard wide brook. Now let me enhance this for you. On our luxury pontoon boat, incredible 58 degree fall evening, leaves starting to change color, dead calm wind, nothing but the wild, and a black bear swimming across the brook in front of you!!
Throw in a cheese and cracker, great conversation, and some laughs. You can't go wrong.
UNLESS YOU LIVE IN ALASKA AND SEE GRIZZLY OUT YOUR FRONT DOOR DAILY!!
Registered Maine Guide Mark P.S. No moose tonight, don't let that deter you.
9/3/08 Wednesday
Absolutely Majestic! Had a wonderful party of 6 for a birthday moose tour. We saw 1 bull and 1 cow. Also a beautiful sunset as well. I don't even want to talk about it, because I don't think I can describe just how nice it was. Guess you just have to be here.

WOW!! September, summer is officially transitioning in to fall. It always goes by to fast when you live in a place that receives almost 200 inches of snow. The wind finally decided to lie flat for a few minutes this evening. We where able to get across the lake and see a beautiful mature cow. A great calm quite evening in the brook. A little bit of rest after a busy summer, but it's not over yet. Some of our best summer weather comes during September and October! Come see us at New England Outdoor Center.
8/30/08 Saturday
The past couple of days have been wonderful as always. Last night we saw a cow and this morning a bull. Both offered great photo opportunities. The weather has been great and our guests are still vacationing hard. Unbelievable stars at night and a mild on set of fall in the air. There is still plenty of summer season left, so come see us for your next relaxing getaway, unless you go on my heart pounding moose tour. We will be running tours until November.

Finally, Sunshine and no clouds! I was ready to put summer on a milk carton, because it has definitely gone missing! On the other hand the Moose are off the milk carton and back in town. Last night we observed a cow and calf feeding in the brook. Boy, the calf's grow quick.
I know everyone wants to go to Bar Harbor, but why 3 days of the same old thing, Ice Cream, T-shirts, Antiques, Jewelry and rock stores. Come do something worth while, WHITEWATER RAFTING, MOOSE TOUR, ALL DAY WILDLIFE TOUR, GUIDED FISHING, HIKING BAXTER STATE PARK, YOU CAN EVEN SWIM IN OUR BEAUTIFUL LAKES AND RIVERS (WATER TEMPS WELL ABOVE THE NORTH ATLANTIC!!!)
Guests all say the same thing every time they come to visit, we should've spent the week in Millinocket with New England Outdoor Center!! Maybe next year! Don't let this happen to you.

What a great day with the Concord Academy group. Full day Wildlife tour on the lake. Braved big winds and waves. Had a lunch on a fantastic remote beach all for us only. Saw moose, (2) You have never seen 14 through 16 year old eyes light up and grab there attention until a 1,000lb bull moose hangs out in front of you for 15 min. at 20 feet. Great day with tough weather. Saw a moose on to nights moose tour as well. Tomorrow is a canoe trip with that group to the ice caves and a moose tour in the evening! GOOD NIGHT!!
Mark8/18/08 Monday
Well, we are back in the moose game!! YEE HAA!!! Today we saw a total of 5 moose. I will tell ya that's great for this time of the year. Glad we were able to find them for you. I can only suggest one thing if you are coming for the moose, Do not be closed minded when it comes to mode of transportation for your tour. I promise that myself and other guides will let you know what mode offers you the best possibilities. Believe me you will forget all about how you got there in the heat of the moment. When PAPA BULL looks at you through your NIKON, you will do a little dance, see a little moose, got moose tonight, got moose tonight.

Do you ever just have those days!!?? This evening, 5 min before departure by pontoon on to the lake we received a call for a rescue mission to another boater for a dead battery. I decided to help him out since I was going on to the lake anyway. Upon starting my boat, the battery was dead as well. I got a new battery headed across the lake and encountered 3 foot swells and 30mph winds. Making the rescue mission too tough for the stranded boater and a difficult ride back to camp. Having to go by vehicle for our moose tour. Long story short, tough start!! In the end we saw 5 moose total and 1 at 15 feet for 15 min. Guests had a fun time and saw a big Moose! A true testimony to show that I will try my best to find you moose! COME SEE ME!!!

What a beautiful evening for a boat ride for moose. We saw 2 Great Blue Heroin, 2 Beaver and Loons. Unfortunately a Goose egg on the Moose. Don't worry Because we offer our moose guarantee. The guests still have a great time on a luxury pontoon cruise in and out of some gorgeous brooks with a beverage and a cheese and cracker. Come see us and enjoy some relax time on your vacation. It's not far away, start thinking snowmobile vacation!!!

Today was a great day to see the moose. Cold and foggy on the lake still finding one giant lurking in the mist. Later in the day the sun came out. Ya that's what I said, " the sun came out" but just for a minute.. We still got moose for the evening, 2 of them. Better hurry and come see the moose before the kids head back to school.

I bet you all thought I was dodging the moose-less bullet! Well I'm not. We had a few email glitches, and some very busy work weeks. I will say the moose activity has dropped from the early spring, but we always manage to make it an exciting trip. Just like tonight's moose tour. Even though we only saw one moose, it swam across the brook, seeing it enter the water from one side and exit on the other. Big deal you might say!!! Well it is if that Maine moose nearly causes a boating accident, swimming 10 feet off the nose of our luxury pontoon boat. Talk about a close encounter.
Sorry for the lack of updates but we are in full summer swing and I suggest that if you are reading this, that calling NOW to book your moose tour is a GOOD idea!! I promise you will see this tour as the highlight of your trip.

Subject: Moose Tour From This Morning
Mark,
My family and I wanted to extend a big thank you for the trip this morning.
Although we did not see any Moose, we really enjoyed the beautiful scenery
and education on this great state! We also enjoyed getting to know you.
We all hope to be back for a another Moose trip in the future and I hope to
be up in the winter for a 4 day snowmobile expedition at 135 mph...)! Maybe
I can squeeze in a class 5 rapid ride too!
I also wanted to let you know that we were able to get a Moose Pass after
grabbing lunch at that Italian place (can't remember name but really good
food) and we headed into Roaring Brook with pass and food in hand. We sat
down at a picnic table at the parking lot for lunch debating whether or not
to make the trek into Sandy Stream Pond. Well the decision was pretty much
made for us when the couple who was on the boat with us this morning came
off the trail and wondered passed our picnic table - they told us they just
saw a bull moose and cow moose at Sandy Stream Pond! Needless to say, we
pretty much ran down the entire trail
By the time we got there the cow was running off, but the bull hung around
for a while. We heard from others there that we just missed a black bear! We
stayed for close to an hour and got lots of great pictures!
No moose this morning, but we were happy to get our fill this afternoon!
Thanks again for your time this morning!

Well with the rain and mid-summer warm conditions the moose are playing hard to get... but, they are still out you just need a good registered Maine Guide to find them for you. We have still been seeing the beautiful majestic creatures but, we do have to hunt for them. We are continuing our pontoon boat tours that allow for spectacular views of Mt. Katahdin while we hunt for moose. If the weather does not cooperate we use the comfortable NEOC van and look for them that way. By the way, we saw 2 moose today! So call us today at 800-766-7238 and come see the beautiful Millinocket/Katahdin Region of Maine and Maine's mighty moose!

Dear NEOC:
I just returned from a morning of Moose watching with Mark, a day rafting with Steve-Q, and a day of fishing with Joey. Those three days were among the most memorable we ever experienced. The knowledge of their crafts was evident by these outstanding guides. I canoed many of Maines rivers in hte past but never felt so safe as with your trip. Although it took me 25 years to return to the Millinokcet area, I am sure that I will return again, perhpas next year, because of the great time we had this year. Thanks to these three great guides for a great three days. Jerome Burke

Just got home to North Carolina after a week in Maine and the highlight of the trip was the Sunday evening moose tour. We saw two bulls, two cows and one calf! Mark was an excellent guide and made the trip fun and exciting. We had made the tour by van with Dave a couple of days earlier but the moose didn't want to cooperate. It wasn't because Dave wasn't trying however. I was beginning to feel sorry for him as he was completely disappointed at not finding any and felt as if he let us down. Unfortunately, moose operate on their schedule and not ours! Whether we saw any moose the first time or not, Dave and NEOC and all the employees worked extremely hard to make our excursion memorable. Good work guys. We will be back.

Well we may have started a little on the soggy side today but I still GOT MOOSE! My guests and I were able to find 1Bull and 3 cows. The antlers are starting to get rather large at this point. Did you know that one antler can way up to 85lbs. Want to learn more and maybe get close enough to make your heart and your breathing elevate when you see your first? Come see me for the most recognized pontoon boat ride into nature at its finest. Want to be old school, lets take my 10 person war canoe into some of the most beautiful brooks you will ever see!! Why do moose have big antlers? For radio reception, they are Moosic lovers. HA! HA! OK short and sweet, we saw 5 moose today. 3 bulls, 1 cow and 1 calf. Also on the wildlife front we observed a large whitetail deer (buck) feeding on the edge of the river today along with loons. Great sunshine for our lake pontoon moose tour!! Got Moose? We do at New England Outdoor Center, along with all 4 season recreational opportunities. Pass us on to your friends and come stay on the lake at Twin Pines!

Today was filled with plenty of excitement. Neoc was fortunate to spend time with 3 wonderful camp councilors and 12 youths from Maine Teen Camp. Our day started with a 3 hour Moose Tour that departed by our luxury pontoon boat. Seeing 3 large bull moose and 1 cow, Muskrat, and Hooded Merganser mother and 18 Babies!!! After a spectacular lunch from our famous River Driver's Restaurant, we had a great hike in Baxter State Park with swimming on natural rock slides and picking of Maine's wild blueberries. Sunshine, Dry, and 80 degrees. PERFECT!!!!!!!!!! - Registered Maine Guide Mark

Things on the moose front are still great!!! Despite the 90 degree temps over the past few days. All of the Maine Guides are working hard to ensure your time spent with us is the highlight of your vacation. This morning we had high winds and big waves on Millinocket lake but that did not stop us from observing a Great Big Old Bull. The Knight family was extremely patient with me as we entered each wave like a Navy Vessel. Thanks Folks!! Registered Maine Guide Mark

Evening Pontoon Boat Moose Tour Saw a very very large Bull Moose feeding. We pulled the Pontoon Boat up to about 25 yards away. Shut off all motors and sat and watched him for 15 minutes. He was still feeding when we decided to move on... The sunset behind him and over Katahdin was spectacular. Registered Maine Guide: Matt Polstein

This mornings moose report sounded great! I was unable to go but another NEOC guide was able to do a great job as well... finding two bulls!!!! I was fortunate enough to spend the day receiving the last of my initial whitewater guide training! Spending the entire day running the most difficult sections of the Penobscot River, Class V rapids. I did the evening moose tour finding the opposite of the morning tour with 2 cows. The company was fantastic with my PA. friends! I am on the river one more time tomorrow but still have NEOC guides for tours... so call soon!!! - Registered Maine Guide, Mark

Just enough sun brought by my Floridian friends for a pontoon ride and some views of Mt. Katahdin. We saw 4 moose total, Whitetail deer, and loons. What was truly fantastic is that we saw the largest moose of the season. Well over 1,000lbs and monster antlers. Does it get better? With out a doubt! Watched this moose from 40 yards or less with plenty of photo opportunities. You may wonder how close you will get! Come find out. If all goes well a 1,200lb vegetarian will still make you feel like your at the bottom of the food chain!!!!

Just when you thought you knew your wildlife, a young man by the name of Matthew only 8 years of age blows you away with the brain activity of a young Einstein. Mathew asked the 5 most important questions in relation to moose! He watches Animal Planet which we are proud to say has gone our moose tour as well. Matthew reads National geographic, he makes the kid off of the Jerry McGuire movie look hopeless. Fortunately despite our large party and continued unsettled weather we still watched a cow from less than 40 yards for over 5 minutes! Matthew it was a pleasure and honor to meet someone as incredible as yourself! Good luck in becoming a Zoologist

A beautiful day for a 6 hour wildlife tour with the Canfield's. Great scenery on the Penobscot river. Today we observed 6 moose and at least three were bulls in velvet. On our trips at New England Outdoor Center we always have a great highlight. Today's moment was a 3 to 4 day old whitetail fawn that could hardly walk with it's mother. This was scene at less than 20 yards and made for fantastic pictures. Thanks for checking us out and come see us again.

Hello To all,
What another gorgeous day here on Millinocket lake! Tonight I had the liberty of taking the Stabiniski family out for a Moose tour and we all had a fantastic time. I couldn't have had better company. We were all privileged to see a beautiful new born calf with her mom feeding in the water. We saw 15 Moose Total! Morgan who helped me keep count through our tour. The end of our trip produced a rainbow that ran from Millinocket to the top of Mt. Katahdin. I think there may have even been a Moose at the end of the Rainbow!
Thanks again folks come see us for guided winter snowmobiling!!!!

Hello from Twin Pines!
Last night, Monday the 9th we had a great trip on the lake by pontoon boat. We saw 5 moose total, 3 bulls and 2 cows. The great part about this trip was that we got to see a Large Whitetail deer (buck) standing face to face with a cow moose at the rivers edge.
This morning Tuesday the 10th brought fantastic sunshine and great views of Mt. Katahdin.Unfortunately we did not see any moose but always seem to make up for it in other wildlife and scenery. Today we encountered another great whitetail and a young 125lb BLACK BEAR! Plenty of loons as well.
Have a great day!
