Just up the road in Baxter State Park, Bicknell's Thrush Three-toed and Black-backed Woodpeckers can be found at Mt. Katahdin. To the south, enjoy great Maine bird watching at Hirundo Wildlife Refuge or Sunkhaze Meadows, a breeding habitat for black ducks, hooded mergansers, blue-winged teal, and ring-necked ducks. You'll also see marsh wrens, thrushes, and even Nelson's sharp-tailed sparrows and American bitterns. Other area birds include boreal and woodland warblers, yellow-bellied flycatchers, finches, crossbills, and golden-crowned kinglets.
