Guide Training
2008 Guide Training Dates

Level I - May 18-25, 2008
Level II training dates to follow Level I...(please inquire)
Requirements
To sit for the Maine Whitewater Guide Test, you must:
- be at least 18 years old
- provide proof of at least Basic First Aid and CPR certification
- provide a completed Maine Guide Test Application
- supply a notarized Run Sheet certifying that you have completed the appropriate on-river training
- pay Maine State fee $192.00
Additional information concerning the State of Maine's Whitewater Guide Certification can be found online.
You may enter NEOC's Guide Training program before the age of 18 without First Aid or CPR certification. However, you will need to acquire First Aid and CPR training and be 18 years old before you can sit for the state test. NEOC will provide you a Guide Test Application and signed Run Sheet at the completion of your training. NEOC does not provide First Aid and CPR training.
Cost
Level I - May 18-25, 2008
The cost of a week of Level I guide training which includes lodging in a cabin
tent (double or quad occupancy) and all meals is $350.
Level II - Please Inquire
When you attain a Level I license, you may participate in our Level II training free of charge.
What To Bring
- Clothes (including synthetic undergarments, fleece or wool clothing including socks, hat, rain gear and outdoor clothing)
- Sunglasses
* Sunscreen
- Water bottles
- Flashlight
- Battery powered alarm clock
- Tevas or old sneakers
- 2 Copies of your CPR and First Aid Certifications (if current)
- A positive attitude!
In addition, your preparation should include reading Swiftwater Rescue by Slim Ray and The
Complete Whitewater Rafter by Jeff Bennett . These are valuable resources read by all whitewater guides and can be purchased from Northwest River Supplies online. |
